Our Doctors

Dr. Jeffrey D. Whall

Dr. Whall received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology from the University of Maryland in 1975. In 1976, he entered the Graduate School program at Texas A&M University, while working as a veterinary technician in private practice.

From Texas A & M, Dr. Whall earned a B.S. degree in Veterinary Science in 1980, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1981, and completed his Thesis for a Master’s degree in Veterinary Toxicology in 1982, all from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

In 1983 he returned to Maryland in 1983 where he practiced Veterinary Medicine in the suburbs of Baltimore until 1989.  In August of that year he and his wife Maggie purchased Fairland Animal Hospital.  This was also the year they became the proud parents of their triplets; Daniel, Kelly Ann, and Thomas.  Many of you may have met them at the hospital, as they are now old enough to help out in what has evolved into a true family business.

A member of numerous veterinary associations, he is also an active member of several civic and business associations.  Dr. Whall is licensed to practice Veterinary Medicine in Maryland and Virginia and is a member of numerous veterinary, civic and business associations.  Fairland Animal Hospital has been cited as one of the best veterinary practices in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area in the last two publications of Washingtonian Magazine and Consumers’ Checkbook Magazine.

Dr. Whall attributes his success to a dedicated staff that are all committed to the well-being of the animals and to the service of the owners.  Many of the staff have been part of the “family” for numerous years providing our clients with the finest veterinary care in the area.

Amy R. Wenzel, D.V.M.

Dr. Wenzel began her career with animals in high school volunteering at the National Zoo as a keeper aide for birds. She then became a kennel technician followed by veterinary technician. While in college she volunteered in Costa Rica collecting data on leatherback sea turtles.
In 2006, she received her BS in Animal Science at the University of Md. She then received her DVM in 2010 from Virginia Tech, "Go Hokies!" While in Vet school, she took advantage of many opportunities presented to her to gain experience in exotics. Her last year of school she traveled to many places and worked with a wide variety of animals from ducks and cranes to giraffes and polar bears! This was while studying the more common household pets and their needs as well!
Dr. Wenzel currently owns a cockatiel named "Skippy" and stays active with exotics by offering emergency relief to the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center.
Dr. Wenzel enjoys her free time reading, horseback riding and is a certified SCUBA diver!
